At Northstar we believe in being the church. Jesus demonstrated mercy towards those in need that He encountered. If we are to practive mercy as He did, we must intentionally get involved in the lives of others and our communities and campuses.
While we have some church-wide community service opportunities, most of our ministry to others is done in a “decentralized” manner as we encourage our members and attenders to be the church. This means that on any given week, ministry is happening all over. From a family adopting a child through Compassion International to a small group volunteering to help a community organization, our love for Jesus Christ propels us into the lives of others.
Some of our past organized efforts have included:
- Micah’s Backpack
- Tornado recovery aid in Pulaski, VA
- To Our House homeless ministry
- NRV Pregnancy Resource Center
- Handing out popsicles at Blacksburg’s Steppin’ Out Festival
- Montgomery County Christmas Store
- Camp Alta Mons
Ministry to others refreshes them and restores us. It’s at the heart of Jesus’ teachings. How will you get involved? How will you demonstrate your love for Christ to others?
“…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5.16)
